Black lipstick and sushi

1. Sushi. My mother came home on her lunch break today only to bring me sushi. I didn't even ask for some, which makes it even nicer of her. Vege sushi is about the only time I really eat vegetables. Who cares if I'm vegan? I dislike vegetables, the exceptions being cucumber, asparagus, avocado, corn and lettuce. I'm a fruit person. Nom nom nom!

2. A quote from Freaks and Geeks. I discovered Freaks and Geeks the other day after someone mentioned it on tumblr. How did I not know about this earlier?! You can watch a couple of the episodes of season 1 on youtube, but after I told my dad about it, he downloaded seasons 1&2 for me. My parents have suddenly gotten super duper nice. Watch it! The cast is awesome. Just try and not make baby-noises everytime a 10yr John Francis Daley appears. I always find myself weirded out by seeing stars when they were much, much younger. Dunno why.

3. Black lipstick. Wore some of my black lipstick to make up for the fact I had no costume when I was almost forced to take my baby brother out trick-or-treating. I live in a quiet neighbourhood with a whole lot of old people in the surrounding houses, so a lot of them didn't "celebrate" Halloween. Major bummer for Maverick, my very hyper 3yr old brother. I'll obviously have to make more of an effort next year.

4. The coat I'm wearing in these photos (which you can't see very well at all) was chosen by my sister. After playing one too many hours of a certain videogame, she suddenly decided that I needed something that resembled a pimp-coat. This was the best we could do. It's velvet with faux fur trimmings. I have no idea what I'll wear it with since I'm not really much of a, uh, pimp, but I'm sure I'll figure something out. Wouldn't want it to go to waste.

How was Halloween for you guys? Any awesome costumes you wore/saw?

1 more exam and I've finished my first year of university. Yikes!

dress - thrifted, tights - DIY, creepers - demonia

3" creepers! These are the shoes I ordered from Thornapple Boutique which took nearly a whole 2 months to get to me. They are finally here and I have worn them everyday since. A bit too tight, but I think my running, jumping and general excessive movement have loosened them up a bit. The faux black fur is surprisingly soft and the shoes are a lot lighter on my feet than I thought they'd be. They look heavy, everyone assumes they are, but they are as heavy as any other normal shoe.

This is what I wore out to watch a filipino beauty pageant (don't ask). The dress is something I thrifted and it's really nice and sheer with long, loose sleeves. You can't really tell it's sheer from these photos, but it is... which is why I'm wearing a slip underneathe. The tights are an easy peasy DIY I did with some plain white tights and a small bucket of black dye.

I am so freaking tired right now, just got back from my second day of the beauty pageant. SO hungry and SO sleepy... I'm finding it really difficult to blog, so I guess I'll end this here. Really happy to see you guys liked my gold boots, with any luck I'll wear them in my next outfit post :)

Gold Boots.

Ever since these Marc Jacobs gold boots came out, I've been on the hunt for a pair of gold shoes. After a while I gave up because I just could not find anything anywhere. I guess gold shoes aren't high in demand. However, after seeing this post that FOXYMAN did, I decided to make gold boots my next DIY.

I got these green boots from a local vintage store in town, Hunters and Collectors, for a handful of cash. They've got a solid wooden heel, so I'm a bit cautious when I walk around with them. They make big, loud, clompy noises. Not good for walking into a silent lecture theatre when you're late, which is most of the time if you're me. If you plan on doing this yourself, you'll probably want to use spray paint that's meant for metal or wood, none of that craft store stuff, otherwise the paint will wear off really fast.

I love them! Tacky, tacky, tacky. I'll admit that I have a bit of a soft spot for tacky and slightly ugly things. They just seem more interesting to me.

Speaking of ugly, my shoes from Thornapple Boutique arrived on Monday, but I'll reveal those in another post ;)

The New Girl in Town

Some scans of Tavi in the latest issue of Pop Magazine. Despite what she may say, I definitely wouldn't think her your "typical 13 year old girl", because, well... she's not. Between doing homework everyday and gossiping with her friends, the quirky Tavi is being invited to fashion shows, meeting up with the Rodarte ladies and being generally awesome. I can't remember ever being that cool when I was her age. From what I can remember, being 13 was about getting awkward haircuts and thinking you were too cool for school. Kudos to the few people who were able to escape the wrath of the "transitional phase". I was not one of those few.

Her blog, The Style Rookie, gets half a million hits a month with readers from all ends of the earth. Designers included. She's right up there with Fashion Toast, Sea of Shoes and Childhood Flames. So, if you haven't read her blog already, you should... and be sure to check out the article/interview in Pop Magazine. She's definitely cute, no doubt about that, but from what I've seen in the magazine, she's actually really quite beautiful.

leather jacket - thrifted, white shirt - vintage, tie-dye dress - minkpink, shoes - bamboo/trademe

Went out with my sister and mother today, despite the wind, to go watch 500 Days of Summer. It was preeeeetty good, though not as good as people hyped it out to be. I'd still recommend it though, so if you haven't seen it yet, you should. Left the cinema a little smitten with the character Tom and murderous about Summer. I mean, seriously, what a *insert nasty name here*. It's a cute little film.

I got these new shoes last week off trademe and I've only just gotten used to how high they are. 5" heels and my feet don't go too well together... not to begin with anyway. They are now the best of friends and I'm super surprised at how comfortable they are. I have slippers that aren't as comfortable as these. I'm pretty pleased with them, though I must admit I'm not quite used to being 5'11. It's just weird being that tall.

Quick update

Aaaah, I'm back! After an unannounced mini-hiatus, I finally found something I wanted to blog about. I mean... look at that hair in the last photo! I understand that it won't tickle everyones fancy, as is the case with everything, but you have to admit it's really quite quirky. I was thinking about doing something similiar with my hair a while back, but I don't like the idea of using bleach, which is what I'd have to do seeing as my hair is black and any colour you put in it won't show up properly unless you use some hardcore dye or bleach. Sigh.

Oh, and Ali Michael is looking like the cutie-pie she is outside the Luella show.

Lately I've been feeling really uninspired, but I think that's just because I've got an insaaaane case of wanderlust. I just have this constant nagging feeling in the back of my mind. I need to get outta this town. I always knew New Zealand wasn't the place for me, and I'm definitely not saying it's crap, becaus I think it's actually pretty good, but it's just not for me. I don't know what is, but I'll never get a chance to find out if I don't leave, you know? I'm a bit of an adventurer at heart. An adventurer with a low paying job and university projects to finish xD

Now... back to more study!

Macy

p.s it may take me a while to reply to all your comments, but I'm slowly making progress..

leather jacket - H&M, striped shirt - levis, scarf - glassons, bag - thrifted

You can thank my inadequacy in using self-timer for these blurry photos. The perfectionist in me is dying a little bit.

Anyway, this is what I wore today to an early morning lecture. My hair is not brushed and I literally had to pick up the clothes from my floor and throw them on before rushing out the door. I managed to get to the trainstation at the exact moment the train arrived, phew! And incase you're wondering how I had time to take these photos, I took them when I got back home :)

My life at the moment is pretty stressful, there's just too much stuff I've got to get done thanks to my procrastination problem. I left EVERYTHING to the last minute, so now I'm suffering the consequences. Dyiiiiiingggggggg.

btw, I just need to say that this scarf is possibly the best scarf ever. It's nice and cozy, keeps me warm and is long enough to wrap around myself in some of the most ridiculous ways. Cost me only $5 too, which makes it even cooler ;D

Love,
Macy

p.s if anyone wants to tell me how to use focus and self-timer in harmony, feel free to tell me! PLEASE.

Black vs White

Photobucket
Photobucket
(source: stockholmstreetstyle)

Stockholm Streetstyle is funfunfun to browse, the photos are really great and the people are all ridiculously good looking and they all have wicked style. I found that the photos I liked the most were either made up of all white or all black, which probably means I should extend myself more (as mentioned in the previous post), but I can't help it... there's something quite simplistically chic about single toned outfits. Which do you guys like better, all black or all white?

Air NZ fashion week starts on Monday, and I'm pretty excited. Any NZers going? Unfortunately, university is keeping me far too busy and I honestly can't afford to take any time off to dribble over pretty clothes. It's all about studying and sleeping for me nowadays :)

Rodarte SS10

Photobucket
Photobucket
(source: style.com)

Typical Rodarte, love it. I'm not quite sure how this manages to be so similar yet so different from their past collections, but I guess that's why they're successful. Finally, a collection I actually like! If I could comfortably live in Rodarte, I would do it in a heartbeat, but something tells me that Rodarte and Comfortable don't go hand-in-hand.

In other news, I'm very unimpressed with Thornapple Boutique. I've been made to wait for 3 weeks for my shoes to arrive at my doorstep and I emailed them yesterday asking when I should expect them by and they told me that Demonia in the US forgot about their order for me and so they've had to order the shoes again, which means they have to wait at least a week and then I have to wait at least a week. 2 more weeks of waiting. NOT PLEASED.

Spring 2010

Photobucket

Carlos Miele - sheer lace, sequins and chiffon, floor length gowns, darker hues.

Photobucket

Charlotte Ronson - army style jackets, streets meets classic, sheer, strong shoulders.

Photobucket

Jeremy Laing - soft drapery, tailored trousers, geometric shapes, gentle layering.

These are some of my favourites from NYFW. As you can see, I'm a fan of sheer-anything, draped-anything and soft-flowy-anything. Probably should extend myself a bit more, but I'm not a huge fan of bright colours and I like the layering abilities of sheer, soft fabrics. Heh.

To be honest, while scouting all the other shows, I was slightly disappointed. I was really expecting a bit more, but it seems that a lot of the designs are far too similar to one another, but maybe it's just me. What do you guys think? I especially want to know what you thought of A. Wang, I'm getting mixed signals from what all the other bloggers have said - some hate it, and others think it's just as fabulous as everything else he does.

Oh, and just because someone asked... I liked half of A. Wang's collection, and I was iffy about the other half. I dunno, I just really didn't like some of the clothes, they were different, but not good different. Just my opinion.

Macy
